Abstract of Mario Perniola’s paper
In my opinion, the project “Mediating Media” means: 1. to fight technological determinism rediscovering the essentially political character of this issue; 2. to fight the numbing effect in which Western society seems to have sunken; 3. to be aware of the complexity and subtlety of the movements that occur within the tetrade identified by Mc Luhan in his book ”Laws of Media”, written in collaboration with his son Eric; 4. to believe that philosophy possesses conceptual instruments sufficiently sharp and accurate to undertake this task.
